When you go shopping off-line, every time you use a debit or credit card it is listed and recorded so "they know" where you have been, what you have spent and how much and that enables them to traget advertising at you.
Best to use cash.
If the shop or restaurant won't take cash there's something dodgy going on and you'be best shop somewhere else.
Imagine the day when there is no cash. If you want to give a few pounds to your child or grandchilkd, a little to somebody in need on the street, a tip to a waiter or waitress, buy at a boot sale etc, you will have to swipe your card and they will have to carry a card reader and everything they get will be taxable.
