Cannabis and Law, UK

With immediate effect I call upon the UK Government to instruct police on how the law is applied:  where there is no victim, no legal action should be taken against any citizen.

I call upon the Government to repeal the laws against cannabis possession and cultivation for own use and to introduce a system of legal supply to adults, based upon the following:

Cannabis law is about people, not substances - it is people that are being criminalised and punished, irrespective of their reasons for possessing or cultivating cannabis.

Cannabis law prohibits the cultivation of cannabis even very low THC content (the main psychoactive compound), also called hemp and grown for use as a source of fibre, fuels, paper, oils and foods - as well as cannabis grown in private for health, religious, social of recreational needs.  This clearly illustrates that the ban on the cultivation of cannabis hemp is not due to a risk to health or safety.  Cannabis is wrongly classified and scheduled within the Misuse of Drugs Act.

The application of the law and arrest of citizens without victims is contrary to the higher laws of Human Rights that protect the individuals Right to a Private Life and the Right to choose and to practice their personal belief (alone or with others) provided that they pose no risk or do no harm to others or their Rights.

Furthermore, the illegal application of the Misuse of Drugs legislation on the user of any person for the possession of any substance is contrary to Human Rights law unless the person poses a risk to others or their Rights.

The absence of legislation banning the possession or use of harmful substances such as alcohol, tobacco, caffeine and even sugar (all more addictive and toxic than cannabis), highlights the hypocrisy and illogical nature of the la (The Law is an Ass).

Cannabis Laws and the threat of punishment causes more harm than good, leaving the supply in the hands of profiteers, discouraging problematic users from seeking help, exposing vulnerable people to cannabis of unknown strength or quality, risks exposure to more harmful substances, wastes police time, alienates people to the police, and depriving the people of any tax on profits..
