GRACE, a poem August 24, 2026

GRACE

By Alun Buffry, August 2026

I’m here, I know, through Divine Grace,

A member of the Human Race,

A body, soul, a mind and face,

A Blessed Lifetime I can trace.

I hope to stay here for while

And walk about, many more miles

And try to make you others smile,

And even laugh, once in a while.

Even though I’ve shed some tears,

When I think I’ve lost a loved one dear,

I know my time will come, I must not fear,

Let’s drink to that, some tea or beer!

For there beyond that mystery wall,

Where we will rise, we will not fall,

That Light Divine, will make its call,

For us to enter where goes it all.

Life sometimes seems just like a dream,

Not always seeming as it seems,

Inside the darkness, always a beam,

Though I wondered what it all means.

For Grace, I need the gratitude,

Whatever feelings, whatever my mood,

That Light that shines offers a clue,

Of times ahead I must go through,

For me it’s not about that time,

For now’s the time for me to shine,

For here and now we are Divine,

On Planet Earth, gracefully mine.

As the Mind flies So the Bird walks to the mountain, OR Zen and the Art of Being Lazy

As the Mind flies So the Bird walks to the mountain, OR Zen and the Art of Being Lazy

(a postcard from Pokhara, 1985)

by Alun Buffry

Today, outside, the weather is hazy.

Stayed in all day, feeling quite lazy.

Where to go now, we often talk,

Then decide it's too far to walk.

Two hours there and two hours back,

"Let's stay here, and have a snack".

Just fifteen minutes to Cafe Babar.

And we know that there, food's better by far,

but here we eat, for our stomachs sake,

whatever's available as it's no effort to make.

"Well", I say, "I guess that's what

A holiday's for on a day that's hot."

"We're free, we don't have to do anything.

We can fly like a bird with a broken wing."

"How can that be, such a bird can't fly?"

"We can't do much either and here is why-

'Cos - cor it's hot outside today,

And wherever we go we have to pay",

Or "My leg's aching, stiff and weak,

And there's nothing in the bazaar we seek."

"Stomach queasy, or head aching?

Let's be another chillum a-making."

Then, "Let's go in a boat!"

"No, don't want to row!"

Or, "Let's climb that mountain, look at the snow!"

Oh, if only we could get up there and back,

Without having to walk on that mountain track.

If you close your eyes and lay on your bed,

You can go anywhere inside your head.

If you know how to master the Traveller's Trick,

You'll be there in an instant and come back so quick.

MY LIFE IN A SHELL

 MY LIFE IN A SHELL

I laughed a lot and shed a tear,

Felt some anger, felt some joy,

Turning from dreaded fear,

Looking back to me the boy.

Never had an earthly wife,

Yet for some I felt the Love,

Felt the bliss and felt the strife,

Down below and up above.

I climbed some mountains,

Kissed the sky,

Bathed in fountains,

And got high.

Walked some roads,

Went underground,

Sailed on Norfolk’s Broads

And listened to nature’s sweet sounds.

Drank some wine and Holy Water,

Took some drugs

When I thought I oughta,

Had some bumps and caught some bugs.

Gotten old and lost my teeth,

Slowing down upon the streets,

Daily seeking inner peace,

Look inside the thoughts to beat.

Life lies between two sturdy walls,

That breath keeps apart through grace,

Listening as divine light me calls,

As I rest within my space.

LIBERATION - a poem by Alun Buffry, April 29 2026

LIBERATION

Death is liberation

From all consternation.

Some think reincarnation.

Some think devastation.

But beyond expectation,

Defying explanation,

Is a transformation

That is liberation.

Have no fear, shed no tear,

Ask no seer, it’s where we’re,

Heading for that wall,

We’ll rise, we will not fall.

The gift that is creation,

Through joy and trepidation,

We travel to cessation

As here and now our destination.

We give some consideration,

In temporal adoration,

Imagine situations,

Beyond perpetuation.

Just focus on the light within,

That frees us from imaginary sin,

Let gratitude for life begin,

And clarity and love will win.

Sand Through the Hand, a song by Alun Buffry , words written in 1982

Sand through the Hand

by

Alun Buffry

(1982)

Life flows so quick like golden sand

Each grain a day passed through God’s hand

Each moment precious as a jewel

And Yet I waste it like a fool.

You looked at me my heart to sway

But blind I was and looked away

Back to desires and lust and greed

From which You begged me to be freed.

I never ceased to grab and hoard,

Always forgetting my sweet Lord,

That Love lives on within inside

From whom no soul would wish to hide.

I pray to you Lord, to be so kind

And give me strength to ignore my mind,

So from your path I’ll never stray

And at your feet my life will stay.

Those things for which once I craved

You showed inside and I was saved,

Life’s flow became a flow of bliss.

Each grain a chance Your feet to kiss.

And if ever off I stray again,

Please call me back to Holy Name

That Light inside me, make it glow,

Your endless love, please let me know.

Song (AI) The River of Life by Alun Buffry

AI produced version of a song from my poem "The River of Life"

I would welcome any human being that can produce a better version of these words to music

River of Life!

Whether we laugh, or whether we cry,

the river of life goes rushing by,

down the hills and mountain sides,

into valleys, long and wide,

towards the ocean that is its goal,

it's journey travelled by our soul.

When I was but a little boy,

the river rippled and dashed with joy,

and as I grew and longed to learn,

the river for the ocean yearned.

As young man travelled round the world,

the river twisted, turned and twirled,

eager to find it's resting place,

eager to travel in time and space.

And as the seeking man grew older,

the river found the bigger boulders,

but on it travelled without care,

it knew it's destiny's not there.

The rushing water's now quite slow,

the river old has nothing to show,

it's happiness is calm and deep,

as old man takes his final sleep.

The ocean that is never ending,

is to the sky it's waters lending,

to rain again on mountain top,

to make sure life's rivers never stop.

The rivers message lies in this

Ocean of Mercy, Peace and Bliss

The River Aru in Kashmir, where I wrote these words in 1981
